Free spins no deposit: what are they really worth?

Fifty free spins sounds like a lot. At 10p a spin it is a £5 trial on one slot, with a cap on what you can take home. Here is how to read any free spins offer in two minutes.

How no deposit free spins work

A free spin is a single paid spin on a slot that the casino funds instead of you. Every free spins offer is defined by four numbers, and the headline usually shows only the first:

  1. Number of spins, for example 20.
  2. Value per spin, almost always 10p for no deposit offers, sometimes 20p.
  3. The slot the spins work on, chosen by the casino and often a well-known title.
  4. What happens to the winnings: paid as cash, or paid as bonus funds with wagering and a max cash-out.

Multiply the first two to get the face value. Multiply that by the slot's RTP (return to player) to get what the spins win on average. Then apply the terms in point four.

Worked examples: 10, 20 and 50 free spins

The table assumes a slot with 96% RTP, which is typical for the games casinos pick for free spins.

OfferFace valueAverage winningsAfter 10x wagering*
10 spins × 10p£1.00£0.96≈ £0.58
20 spins × 10p£2.00£1.92≈ £1.15
50 spins × 10p£5.00£4.80≈ £2.88
50 spins × 20p£10.00£9.60≈ £5.76
100 spins × 10p£10.00£9.60≈ £5.76

*Average after staking 10 times the winnings at 96% RTP, before any max cash-out. With no wagering, you keep the full average winnings.

Averages hide the most important thing: the spread. On a typical slot, most players finish 20 spins with somewhere between nothing and a couple of pounds. A small number hit a feature and win £20 or more, and that is where the max cash-out matters. Try your own numbers in the bonus calculator, which simulates thousands of players.

Cash winnings or bonus winnings?

This is the term that decides whether an offer is good.

Paid as cash

  • Withdraw straight away, once verified
  • No wagering, no max bet rule
  • Max win cap still possible, so check it

Paid as bonus funds

  • Wagering up to 10x before withdrawal
  • Max bet while wagering, often £2 or less
  • Some games excluded or count less

Since 2026 the gap between the two has narrowed, because UK casinos cannot ask for more than 10x. A 10x requirement still costs about 40% of the winnings on average at 96% RTP, so cash winnings are worth noticeably more.

The terms to check before you claim

  • Opt-in. Some offers need a tick box or a promo code at sign-up. Miss it and you miss the spins.
  • Expiry of the spins. Often 24 hours to 7 days after they are credited.
  • Expiry of the winnings. Bonus winnings usually have their own deadline to complete wagering.
  • Max cash-out. The most you can withdraw from the offer. Anything above it is removed.
  • Verification. Spins may only appear after your ID check, or after you add a debit card.
  • One per person. Offers are limited to one per person, household, device and payment method. Opening a second account voids both.

UK rules require casinos to show significant terms, such as wagering, max win and expiry, next to the offer itself, not only in the small print. Our offer grader turns those terms into a single grade.

Five mistakes that cost players their winnings

  1. Playing a different slot with bonus funds when the terms allow only selected games.
  2. Raising the stake above the max bet while wagering.
  3. Making a deposit before wagering is finished, which on some sites mixes cash and bonus funds.
  4. Letting the wagering deadline pass with a few pounds left to stake.
  5. Opening a second account, for example in a partner's name on the same device.

Free spins FAQ

How much are 50 free spins worth?

At 10p a spin, 50 free spins have a face value of £5. On a slot with 96% RTP they win about £4.80 on average, but the actual result varies a lot: many players win a pound or two, a few win much more and hit the maximum cash-out.

Can I choose which slot to use my free spins on?

Usually not. No deposit free spins are almost always tied to one slot chosen by the casino, at a fixed stake per spin.

Do free spins winnings need to be wagered?

It depends on the offer. Many UK casinos now pay free spin winnings as cash with no wagering. Where wagering applies, UK-licensed casinos cannot ask for more than 10 times the winnings since 19 January 2026.
